About this policy

This policy explains how identity verification works on GiverImpact. Verification is not automatically required from every user. When it is needed, GiverImpact initiates the request and provides instructions in the user's account. Users should submit verification documents only through the secure verification area of the platform.

Why and when we verify identity

Verification is applied when reasonably necessary to protect platform users, confirm account information, and review the safe release of funds.

Why identity verification is required

Identity verification helps us confirm that an account is operated by a real person and that withdrawal information is connected to an authorised recipient.

  • Protect donors, fundraisers, and campaign beneficiaries.
  • Reduce impersonation, fraud, and unauthorised withdrawals.
  • Check that account and payout information is consistent.
  • Support payment, legal, and platform safety obligations.

When verification may be requested

GiverImpact may request verification at any stage when a safety or compliance review is reasonably required, including:

  • Before a withdrawal is approved or funds are released.
  • When account, campaign, or payout details appear incomplete or inconsistent.
  • After a campaign report, unusual activity, or other risk indicator.
  • When payout details, ownership, or beneficiary information changes.
  • When additional or renewed verification is required.

Accepted documents

The exact documents requested may depend on the account and review. You may be asked to provide the following through the secure verification form:

Government-issued identity

A valid passport, national identity card, or driving licence. The front is required and the back may also be required when the document has two sides.

Identity selfie

A clear, recent image of you as requested in the verification form, used to help compare the person submitting the request with the identity document.

Proof of residential address

A recent official document showing your full name and residential address, such as a bank statement, utility bill, or government correspondence.

Document quality requirements

  • Documents must be valid, clear, complete, and unedited.
  • All details and document edges must be visible and readable.
  • The name and other details should match the information on your GiverImpact account.
  • Supported uploads are JPG, JPEG, PNG, or PDF, with a maximum size of 5 MB per file. The selfie must be an image.
Additional evidence may be requested when the submitted material is incomplete, expired, unclear, inconsistent, or insufficient to complete the review.

Privacy of submitted documents

Verification documents are treated as private information. They are not displayed on public profiles or campaign pages.

  • Documents are stored outside publicly accessible website folders.
  • Access is restricted to authorised personnel who need it for verification, safety, or compliance work.
  • Documents are used to assess identity, account ownership, fraud risk, and withdrawal eligibility.
  • Information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable obligations.
Never send identity documents through campaign comments, social media, or to anyone claiming to verify you outside GiverImpact's official verification area.

Withdrawal restrictions until verification

When verification has been requested, a withdrawal may not be approved or paid until the verification review is completed successfully.

  • A user may be able to submit a withdrawal request while verification is pending.
  • Submitting a withdrawal request does not guarantee approval or payment.
  • GiverImpact may pause review or release of funds until requested documents and information are approved.
  • Verification approval does not remove other campaign, payment, or withdrawal checks.

If verification cannot be completed, the withdrawal may remain restricted, be rejected, or require different or additional evidence.

What happens after a request

Follow the instructions shown in your account and respond to any request for additional information as soon as possible.
